The German Department at Wooster offers students preparation in the German language and in the literature and culture of the German-speaking countries. The curriculum encourages active development of written and spoken facility with German, promotes intercultural thinking and communication, and introduces students to the methods and questions central to to the study of German cultural history.

Freedom Without Walls
November 9, 2009 celebrates 20 years since the Berlin Wall was torn down. Long a symbol of isolation and contention, the Berlin Wall now symbolizes hope, change and unity. Freedom Without Walls will be celebrated on Wooster's campus the week of November 9-13. Student groups will be constructing wall segments, which will be placed randomly around the central part of campus. There will be a panel discussion on Monday, November 9. Learn More »

Kaffeestunde and Stammtisch
Kaffeestunde is held every week on Wednesday in the German Suite H in Luce Hall, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. This is a time for anybody who wants to relax over a cup of coffee and speak casually in German. Stammtisch is a weekly lunch (12:00-1:00 p.m.) on Fridays in Lowry 151/152. Faculty and students enjoy lunch and conversation in German.
