Dr. Carrie deLapp Culver, comes to the College of Wooster with more than twenty years of teaching experience. She received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Missouri and the Doctor of Arts in music degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Voice Performance and Pedagogy, where she focused on opera directing, particularly youth opera. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the National Opera Association and served its companion organization Opera For Youth as editor of the Opera for Youth Journal for several years. She has served on the faculties of several state and private universities including: Emory University; Washington State University; University of Texas at El Paso; Jacksonville State University; and Long Island University and Five Towns College in New York. Dr. Culver has performed and recorded with such diverse organizations as the Atlanta Symphony Chamber Chorus under Maestro Robert Shaw, the El Paso Opera, the Colorado Gilbert and Sullivan Festival under the direction of John Cox, O.B.E., of the D’Oyly Carte Theatre in London, and Boulder’s Dinner Theatre. She is also in demand for her skills as a stage director and conductor, most recently serving as the music director for the Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island and the Cultural Arts Playhouse in New York. She remains active as a recitalist and oratorio soloist, with recent New York performances as soloist with conductor Robert Page in the Poulenc Gloria, Bach’s Cantata 151, Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate and Requiem Mass, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Dr. Culver has also served as a soloist, organist and chorus master in the Episcopal Church for fifteen years.
