Major/Minor

The Major

A major in WGSS consists of 11 courses, to include the following:

WGSS 120: Introduction to Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Two courses chosen from:

  • WGSS 202:  History of Western Feminist Thought
  • WGSS 204:  Global Feminisms
  • WGSS 206:  Queer Lives

WGSS 310: Seminar in Feminist Teaching and Learning

Four electives from cross-listed courses accepted for WGSS credit.
-Two of these must be courses accepted for WGSS credit from one division (AH, HSS, or MNS).
-One of these must be a course accepted for WGSS credit from a second division (AH, HSS, or MNS).
-One elective must be a course accepted for WGSS credit and focused on race, class, or culture in an area other than the United States

  • WGSS 401: Junior Independent Study
  • WGSS 451: Senior Independent Study
  • WGSS 452: Senior Independent Study

WGSS 407:  Practicum may be substituted for one of the cross-listed courses, as may one WGSS 200-level course and one WGSS 400-level course.

The Minor

A minor in WGSS consists of 6 courses, to include the following:

WGSS 120: Introduction to Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

One course from:

  • WGSS 202
  • WGSS 204
  • WGSS 206

WGSS 310:  Seminar in Feminist Teaching and Learning

Two electives from cross-listed courses accepted for WGSS credit from two different divisions (AH, HSS, or MNS).
- One of these must be a course accepted for WGSS credit and focused on race, class, or culture in an area other than the United States.

  • WGSS 330: Feminist Methodologies
  • WGSS 407:  Practicum may be substituted for one of the cross-listed courses.
  • WGSS 120 and 202 may be counted toward either Arts and Humanities or Social Sciences within the Learning Across the Disciplines requirement.

WGSS 407: Practicum may be substituted for one of the cross-listed courses, as may one WGSS 200-level course and one WGSS 400-level course.
