Sophomore Research
The Sophomore Research Program provides opportunities for students to work as paid research assistants to Wooster faculty members. Through this program students become true partners with faculty in the research process and acquire an understanding of the process involved in conducting research.
Faculty
Faculty members in any academic department are able to hire Sophomore Research Assistants. Each semester, approximately 30 projects are funded. The deadline for summer applications has past. Information about fall semester will be available later in the spring.
Students
Students are eligible to participate in the program from the second semester of their first year through the first semester of their junior year. Research assistants are paid $7.40 an hour and work up to 10 hours per week. Additional benefits for participants in this program include:
- providing excellent preparation for future academic endeavors, such as Independent Study
- effective orientation with using the library
- learning to operate new equipment and computer programs
- enhancing critical thinking and writing skills
- building positive and mentoring relationships with faculty members, and
- having valuable job experience to include on a resume.
The deadline for Spring semester has passed. Openings for summer will be posted the first week of February.
Summer
During the summer, there are numerous research opportunities found both on and off-campus for students of all class years. Summer Openings will be available in February. For more specific information regarding compensation and working hours, please consult the summer research page.
