Q: How do I sign up for my Alumni Lifetime E-mail account?

A: Each Wooster alumna/alumnus is eligible to have his or her own alumni lifetime e-mail account. It's free and yours to use for as long as you like!

We will respond to your requests and questions as soon as possible.

Q: Why would I want a College of Wooster alumni e-mail address?

A:  A lifetime e-mail address with The College of Wooster allows you to provide friends and family with one e-mail address for your lifetime. You can explain to everyone that no matter where you reside, no matter how many times you change jobs/ISPs or e-mail addresses, they will always be able to reach you at the lifetime account.

Q: Can I check my Alumni Email Account using outlook or a different POP or POPS email client?

A: Yes. Set the email server as alumniefl.wooster.edu for retrieving your email. You will need to use you default internet service provider as the sending SMTP agent.

Q:  What are the steps to setup the netmail to act as a pop account?

A: Please see steps below.

  1. 1. After having logged in to your alumni e-mail account, select the "Options" button (the box with the red check marks).
  2. Now select the "Mail Proxy" tab. Under the Hostname: field you should enter "email-in.wooster.edu"(no quotes).
  3. For User Name: enter your undergraduate user-id, i.e. jjones.
  4. Enter your password twice, once in the Password field and once in the Retype password: field.
  5. Finally make sure the Type: field says "POP3" and the Leave on Server: checkbox is empty.
  6. Click on Save to complete.

* Please keep in mind that mail from proxied accounts will not arrive in your alumni e-mail account instantaneously. Proxy account mail is transferred automatically in preset hourly intervals, so if you don't see new mail right away do not panic.

* Before pulling mail from your undergraduate account into your alumni account, you may want to make sure your undergraduate account is cleaned-up of excess messages. Pulling in too many messages from your undergraduate account may fill your alumni account quota and stop the delivery of new mail.

Q: Can I use an IMAP client to check my Alumni Email Account?

A:  No IMAP service is not available.

Q: Who can see my personal information?

A: The privacy of your personal information is our top priority. Only you can access and update your personal information.

Q: How do I list my name in the e-mail directory so other alumni may send e-mails to me?

A: Select the Options button (the box with the red check marks), which can be found on your e-mail home page, below the date. Scroll down to the "Privacy" tab. Select the option that says "none." This will make your name visible to other alumni with Wooster lifetime e-mail accounts.

Q: I don't want to be listed in the lifetime e-mail directory. How do I ensure that my name stays private from other lifetime e-mail holders?

A: Select the Options button (the box with the red check marks), which can be found on your e-mail home page, below the date. Scroll down to the "Privacy" tab. Select the option that says "unlisted." This option will keep your name invisible in the address book.

Q: Can I have my Wooster lifetime e-mail account messages forwarded to another e-mail address that is outside of the Wooster network?

A:  Yes. Select the Options button (the box wit the red check marks) and select the tab at the top of the page called Mailbox Management. Within that tab, select the button "yes" under the statement — Forward all my messages? Within the box below "forward to:", enter the e-mail address where you would like your messages sent.

Q. Can I send attachments through this email account?

A. Yes.

Q. How much space does my email account have?

A. Your email account has 100MB of space.

Q.  What happens when I exceed my 100MB of e-mail space?

A:  When an account exceeds its limit the user cannot send or receive email.

Q.  Will I be notified when I am running short on space in my e-mail inbox?

A: Yes. You will be notified with a pop-up when the account reaches 90% full. There is also a visible status bar for disk utilization.

Q.  What is the maximum size message I may send?

A.  The maximum size of any one message sent is 5MB.

Q. When composing a long message, I lost my text, why does this happen?

A. Your email account has a security feature that "times-out" after 20 minutes. This is to ensure security on your account and the time cannot be changed. We recommend that users compose long messages in an editor such as Microsoft Word and paste them to send.

Q. Are there virus and spam filters on this account?

A. Yes. The College of Wooster has a great interest in protecting all alumni, students, faculty and staff from e-mail viruses and spam. While no programs are able to catch every current virus, each e-mail is automatically scanned for viruses before being sent to your e-mail in box.

Q. Can I retrieve mail from other e-mail accounts?

A. You can deliver mail from up to 3 other e-mail accounts provided they are POP3 accessible (IMAP and Web-only accounts such as Hotmail or Yahoo are not supported). To do so, you will need to enter your POP3 access information in the web portal. You can reach this area by selecting the "Options" button (the box with the red check marks) from your e-mail home page, and then by selecting the "Mail Proxy" tab. From here, you will need to enter the address of your POP3 server, account ID, and password. If you want to leave copies of your e-mail messages in the original mailbox, select the "Leave on Server:" check box. Make sure that POP3 is selected for the Type Field. Please keep in mind that mail from proxied accounts will not arrive in your alumni e-mail account instantaneously.
