Requirements and Procedure for Transfer Credit for Spanish 101-102

I) In order to receive transfer credit toward satisfying The College of Wooster's language requirement for taking the equivalent of Spanish 101 (Beginning Spanish I) or Spanish 102 (Beginning Spanish II) from another institution, the following requirements must be met:

1.) The course must be taken at an accredited institution. Consult with the Office of the Registrar for this information.

2.) A minimum of 60 contact hours is required for the transfer of credit.

3.) If the institution is on a semester system, the course must be worth at least 4 semester-hours credit.

4.) If the institution is on a quarter system, the course must be worth at least 6 quarter-hours credit.

5.) The student must receive a grade of C- or higher in the course.

6. The Department of Spanish will not accept transfer credit for on-line courses to fulfill the foreign language requirement for graduation.

NOTE: Please begin by consulting with the Office of the Registrar. If the course you plan to take or your transcript meet the criteria specified above, you DO NOT NEED the approval of the Chair of the Department of Spanish. The Office of the Registrar will see to it that you are awarded the proper credit.

NOTE: Any deviations from the criteria stated above will require that students consult with the Chair of the Department of Spanish. Also please see the Department's statement under "Transfer Credit" in the College Catalogue.

II) Should the procedure for obtaining approval for transfer credit need the Chair's approval, please do the following:

1.) Obtain a transfer credit form from the Office of the Registrar.

2.) Fill out the front side of the form before your appointment with the Chair of the Department of Spanish.

3.) Bring to your meeting with the Chair of the Department of Spanish the transfer credit form and a copy in writing of the institution's catalogue, bulletin, or course schedule in which the following information appears:

-course title and description
-number of credit hours the course is worth
-whether the institution operates on a semester or quarter system

NOTE: Do not ask the Department Chair to access the institution's web site on his/her office computer. This information must be brought to the appointment in writing.
