Career Planning

Not Sure Where to Start?

Meet with a Career Advisor, participate in career programs, stop by during APEX’s Walk-In Wednesdays. Check out our calendar of events. We are here to help you reach your professional goals.

Understanding Yourself

Who are you? What are you good at? What’s interesting to you? Answering these questions will help you identify your interests, skills, values, and learn more about your personality in relation to potential career paths. There are many assessment tools available to help you answer these questions. Ask about Careerbeam, SIGI, Campbell Interest Inventory, and Myers-Briggs.

Thoughtfully Explore your Choice of a Major

The major you choose will neither predict nor guarantee your future. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the average twenty–something switches jobs once every three years and the average person changes career fields two or three times in their lifetime. Have no fear that choosing a college major will lock you into a specific career for the rest of your life.

For more help, request a College Major Scorecard, a tool to guide you in selecting a major, from a Career Advisor.

Staying on Track:  Career Planning Process

We are here to guide you through a professional development process by helping you integrate your academic, personal, and professional goals. Career planning is a process that includes exploring options, gaining real-world experience and knowledge, creating, evaluating, and implementing a plan for after graduation that may include applying to jobs and/or graduate school.
