Health and Health Care
Purpose
To provide students who have an interest in medical or health issues to have a hands-on experience with disadvantaged or under-served populations. By working with individuals and organizations who are committed to the under-served, students will:
- become more sophisticated in their questions about ethics and how the values they hold affect their life's work
- enhance their understanding of their life's calling and how they can improve the quality of the lives of others
- begin to understand that health care involves healing not only physical symptoms, but also addressing other practical and ethical dimensions.
Eligibility - open to students who:
- Have completed their First, Sophomore, or Junior year
- Are enrolled at the College of Wooster or in a College of Wooster endorsed Off-Campus Study program the semesters preceding and following the internship
- Are in good academic standing (students who are placed on academic probation at the end of the semester prior to their internship will not receive funding.)
- Maintain good standing under The College of Wooster’s Codes of Academic Integrity and Social Responsibility
All majors are encouraged to apply.

Amount of Award - up to
- $1900 for 6 weeks
- $2500 for 8 weeks
- $600 to support travel
Selection criteria
Selection committee will appraise student proposals for the following:
- strength of connection to student’s prior and future academic and non-academic experiences and interests
- depth of the vocational exploration questions the student seeks to examine
- clarity of measurable outcomes the student proposes
- strength of the student’s personal recommendations
- degree of viability and safety
