Reaching Out & Ongoing Successes
More info on Chemistry Professor Paul Edmiston's "Osorb"
Dr. Edmiston is currently an Associate Professor of Chemistry at The College of Wooster with research pursuits in two areas: 1) advanced materials for environmental remediation, and 2) developing chemical sensors for gas-phase explosives. Dr. Edmiston has patent inventions in both of these research areas.
Absorbent Materials Company LLC (ABS Materials) produces a new class of patented, silica-based materials named "Osorb" developed by Dr.Edmiston, that swell 8 times their dry volume in the presence of organic liquids and vapors that are the source of pollution in water sources. Osorb is the next big breakthrough in environmental remediation.
Reaching Out
The Center for Entrepreneurship has made wonderful contacts throughout the Wooster community. We are in the early stages of a partnership with Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center (OARDC) that may include a new course on "The Entrepreneurial Journey" and a new joint project involving the Mellinger Farm, a 200 acre tract of farmland recently donated to the OARDC. Developing projects with Main Street Wooster, Wayne Center for the Arts, Wooster Chamber of Commerce, Wayne Economic Development Council and more. The E-Center is also working on an off-campus center for the arts to showcase student/faculty and community exhibited and performed work.
Ongoing Successes
COW's entrepreneurial spirit continues to surge. Chemistry Professor Paul Edmiston's remarkable invention of "Osorb", will have a massive impact on remedying certain types of water pollution, and Math Professor John Ramsey and his multiple arrangements with regional corporations (Check out AMRE) are stunning and unique examples of entrepreneurship on campus.
