Objective

The Communications/ Web Content Intern will work in the broader domain of internal and external communication, with a particular focus on maintaining and extending the content of the WEDC website, using a Content Management System (CMS). Technical knowledge about website design and development is not necessary. The most effective intern would be a strong writer/researcher adept at communicating with a variety of target audiences (primarily site selection consultants and business prospects, but also including WEDC staff, allies, investors and local business and community members). The Communications/Web Content Intern will also be engaged in other e-commerce communications efforts including the writing and preparation of individual editions of the WEDC’s e-newsletter for internal and external audiences; other marketing collateral pieces, event support and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Checking the WEDC web pages regularly to ensure that content is accurate, current, and inaccordance with the website standards and guidelines
  • Making or requesting changes as needed
  • Identifying the source and frequency of available updates to information contained on the website. Ensure that the timeliest information is being used
  • Maintaining a schedule and log of website updates and/or changes
  • Researching similar websites and making recommendations on content additions or enhancements
  • Assisting in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) initiatives by identifying, writing and inserting Meta
    tags and other web content
  • Preparing monthly website statistics reports
  • Assisting the President and other staff members with other communication
