Year One

Year One is The College of Wooster’s first-year journal, featuring a collection of the best original academic and creative work submitted exclusively by first-year students. The submissions focus on a single theme that changes yearly.

Lynette Mattson, Writing Center associate, serves as the Chief Editor of Year One.

Criteria for Submission

The theme for the 2013-2014 issue of Year One is Facing RACE. All submissions should relate, in some way, to the theme and be the original work of the author.

The deadline for Year One submissions from the Class of 2017 is December 13, 2013.

Submissions to Year One can include:

  • Academic works including reflection papers, persuasive essays, and research papers
  • Creative fiction and non-fiction
  • Poetry
  • Photography
  • Digital projects
  • Music

Please keep written submissions to fewer than 2,000 words. All research must be appropriately cited at the time of submission.

If you are interested in submitting photography, digital copies are preferred and can be sent via email to the editor. Contact the editor to scan print photographs.

All electronic submissions, as well as questions regarding submissions, should be sent to Lynette Mattson, Year One Editor.
