My primary research centers on the visual culture of early modern hospitals and other charitable institutions, focusing on civic ideology, urban ritual, and intersections of class, gender, and cultural production. I am presently completing my first book manuscript, Save the Children: Visual Rhetorics of Charity in Renaissance Italy, which focuses on the visual culture of foundling hospitals in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Italy. My next project considers institutions of confinement, rehabilitation, and reintegration of imperiled teenage girls, reformed prostitutes, and converted Jews and Muslims in sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century Italy.
