Research Interests

My research and publications have focused on the work of the late nineteenth-century American artist James McNeill Whistler. I’m currently completing a book on his Nocturnes, paintings of sites in London and Venice, and their pivotal role in the formation of what I call a “cosmopolitan modernism.” Another current project extends my interests in artistic exchange between America and Britian with research into the intersections of postwar urbanism, gender, and domesticity in Anglo-American Pop Art of the 1950s and 1960s.
