Vipa Phuntumart from Bowling Green State University will present... "Epigenetic gene regulation in Phytophthora sojae".
Vipa received her Ph.D from The University of Fribourg, Fribourg, Switzerland.
Vipa’s main research interests revolve around the molecular basis of plant-pathogen interactions. This work has important implications for future agriculture, agri-business and food availability. Currently the laboratory work focuses on the interaction between a pathogenic oomycete, Phytopthora soaje and its soybean host plant. Her current projects include research on epigenetic gene regulation and functional genomics of transcription factors and ABC-transporters related to this pathogen. These factors have significant scientific and economic importance in terms of agricultural output and related industries. Her lab is also part of the Oomycete Genome Annotation Project (OGAP) that is designed to train undergraduates in genome annotation and functional genomics. An important goal of the laboratory is to educate and prepare future scientists in the latest molecular and genomic techniques.
