Pelican Lecture Speaker 2013

The Biology Department sponsors a Bi-annual lecture in honor of Dr. Ralph Schreiber. Dr. Schreiber was a graduate of the College of Wooster, noted for his work on seabirds, including pelicans. His parents, the late Clare Adel and William Schreiber, were long term residents of and contributors to the Wooster Community and endowed this lecture in Ralph’s memory.

The 2013 Pelican Lecture

"From Darwin to mitochondria: the function of red plumage in the House Finch”
Will be presented by Dr. Geoffrey Hill, Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at
Auburn University.

Females of many animals choose mates based on male ornamentation. The value of such choice is an evolutionary puzzle. Professor Hill will present new ideas that link red coloration in birds to energy production in mitochondria.

Professor Hill earned his B.S. Biology from Indiana University in 1983, his M.S. in Biology from the University of New Mexico in 1986, his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Michigan in 1991.

The lecture is scheduled for Monday, February 11, 2013 - 7:30pm. It will take place at the Lean Lecture Room in Wishart Hall. A light dessert reception will follow.

Admission always free and open to the public.
