Notebook
A complete record of the laboratory work is required. Consult with your advisor about the type of notebook you should keep as well as its style and content. The record must contain originals of all of the methods and results of the research, and must be kept current.
The record must contain:
- dated accounts of experimental work
- all data collected during the research
- originals (bound, labeled, and properly recorded) of all spectra, graphs, charts, papers, printouts, photographs, disks, etc.
- other items and records as requested by individual advisors
Upon completion of your Independent Study project, the complete record of all laboratory work will be given to your advisor. Because it is important for future reference to the original data by subsequent researchers, the lab record must be completely and unambiguously labeled, indexed, and cross-referenced.
