Student Writing and Publishing Opportunities

The English Department produces publications in many of its classes. The Advanced Non-Fiction course offers sections on journalism and magazine writing, which produce major publications that are distributed or sold on campus. A variety of other options for student writers exist as well.

Artful Dodge, a Wooster-based, nationally distributed literary magazine, offers students paid editorial apprenticeships, where they evaluate literary manuscripts, perform managerial duties, and assist in designing the magazine.

The Wooster Voice, the College's student-run weekly newspaper, provides many opportunities for students interested in news, features, arts & entertainment, viewpoints, and sports writing, as well as copyediting, layout and design, and advertising sales experience.

Year One, a journal of literary and visual arts by first-year students, is produced annually and pays each contributor.  It is edited by the Writing Center intern.

The Writing Center offers student mentors in many disciplines. These peer tutors assist Wooster students with a wide variety of writing assignments as they learn to identify strengths and weaknesses in the writing of others.  The Writing Center also offers a one-year paid internship to a recent Wooster graduate.

Goliard is a literary and arts journal published annually by students at the College. The journal is funded by Campus Council and is overseen by the Publications Committee. All students at the College are encouraged to submit visual art and literature for possible inclusion in the journal.

The Index is the College's yearbook, written and edited by a student staff. Students on yearbook staff gain valuable experience with layout and design, photography, and management skills.

Wooster, the College's quarterly alumni magazine, frequently features the prose work of Wooster students.
