Notes

Laura J. Burch (B.A. Saint Louis University; M.A. and Ph.D. University of Minnesota) taught courses in French language conversation, composition, culture, literature film for four years at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois before coming to Wooster in the fall of 2012. At Wooster, she will continue to teach language and culture courses, as well as topics courses in Early Modern prose and theater. Her research interests include mixed-gender friendship in the Early Modern period, French and francophone women's writing, French feminisms, book history, and material cultural history. The recipient of a Bourse Chateaubriand (French government) and the Edouard Morot-Sir Fellowship (Institut Français d'Amérique, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill), Prof. Burch has published scholarly articles on works by Denis Diderot, Françoise de Graffigny and Madeleine de Scudéry. She also co-led a service learning course in Haiti in the spring of 2012, and has a keen interest in Haitian history, art and cuisine. In her free time, Prof. Burch enjoys hiking, biking, reading, and just hanging out with her husband and two small children.
