Timothy Freeze is Visiting Assistant Professor at the College of Wooster. His current research focuses on intersections of art and popular music in Austro-German culture before the First World War. His writings on the music of Gustav Mahler have appeared in several journals and collected volumes, and he has presented research on Mahler and the music of George Gershwin at national and international meetings. Before coming to Wooster, Freeze taught at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and at IES Abroad in Vienna. He earned a Ph.D. in historical musicology from the University of Michigan in 2010, having held research fellowships from the Berlin Program for Advanced German European Studies, the German Academic Exchange Service, and the Fulbright Program.
