Biography, Performance, and Research

Denise Rotavera-Krain has been a member of the Music Department of the College of Wooster since 2007. She serves as the Flute Instructor as well as the Director of Tremolos, the College of Wooster Flute Choir. In addition, she teaches Class Woodwinds bi-annually. Ms. Rotavera-Krain has also taught First Year Seminar at the College of Wooster since 2003. This year’s topic is Identity on Your iPod. Ms. Rotavera-Krain performs regionally as an orchestral musician with the Ashland Symphony (piccolo/third flute/assistant principal), the Mansfield Symphony (substitute) and served as principal/second/piccolo for the 2003 Ohio Light Opera season. She is also an active chamber musician, performing across the Northeast Ohio area with SilverMoon Flute Duo and Le Chien et L’Oiseau, flute and guitar duo. While living in Philadelphia, Ms. Rotavera-Krain performed regularly with the Pottstown Symphony, Haddonfield Symphony, and the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia. Ms. Rotavera-Krain also served as Principal Flutist for the Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey as well as the Disney Grammy All-American College Orchestra. She is a founding member of Musical Tempest, a flute and guitar trio that performs throughout the greater Philadelphia area. Ms. Rotavera-Krain has taught music at the college level for several years at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and Ohio State University – Agricultural & Technical Institute in addition to the College of Wooster. Previously, Ms. Rotavera-Krain served as the Education Director of the Haddonfield Symphony from 2000-2002. Ms. Rotavera-Krain holds a Masters of Music degree in Flute Performance from Temple University in Philadelphia and has studied with Martha Aarons (formerly of Cleveland Orchestra), Kazuo Tokito (Philadelphia Orchestra), and Adeline Tomasone (Opera Company of Philadelphia).
