Biography, Performance, and Research

Thomas Roblee, percussion, director of bands.  Appointed 2008. BME, SUNY Fredonia, 2005.  MM,University of Akron, 2007.  Tom recorded professionally with the Fredonia Wind Ensemble (timpanist), Akron Steel Band,Akron Graduate Percussion Ensemble, and Wooster Scot Symphonic Band(xylophone).  He performed at three Percussive Arts Society International Conventions, was  invited to perform Anders Koppel’s marimba concerto with the Fredonia Symphony Orchestra after winning the concerto competition, premiered the percussion ensemble quartet“Big Falls, Little Falls” by Stuart Saunders Smith, and was selected as a performer for the Keiko Abe Marimba Academy, an intensive collaboration with Japanese marimba virtuoso, Keiko Abe.

Tom works consistently with Ghanaian master drummer Bernard Woma and dance troupe Saakumu, organizing and directing residencies promoting cultural exchange.  He was dance accompanist for modern, jazz, and tap classes at Akron and Kent State.  Tom performed as percussionist with Akron Symphony, Ashland Symphony, Richmond Indiana Symphony, Tuscarawas Philharmonic,Wooster Symphony, and Ohio Light Opera. He was part of the DCI division III world champion Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005 and actively works with Young
Audiences of Northeast Ohio and the Ohio Music Education Association, educating students in schools throughout the area.
