Jason Smith is an Adjunct Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium and Assistant Director of the Scot Marching Band at The College of Wooster, appointed to that position in 2012. Jason received his Bachelor’s of Music Education and Tuba Performance Degree from the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam in 2006, studying tuba with Dr. Charles Guy. In 2007 Jason accepted a graduate assistantship at The University of Akron and earned a Master’s Degree in Tuba Performance in 2009 and returned to UA in 2009 as a graduate assistant in bands, completing a Master’s in Music Education degree in 2012. While at Akron, Jason studied tuba with Mr. Tucker Jolly, conducting with Mr. Robert Jorgensen and Dr. Galen Karriker, and music education with Dr. Laurie Lafferty and Dr. Gene Milford. Jason has performed with ensembles that include the Crane Wind Ensemble, Crane Symphony Orchestra, The University of Akron Symphonic Band, The Sounds of Sousa Band, Freedom Brass Band of Northeast Ohio, Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps, and a brass quintet-in-residence at St. John the Baptist Church in Canton, Ohio. Jason has taught low brass throughout the region including students at Berea-Midpark City Schools, Cuyahoga Falls City Schools, Lake Local Schools, Highland Local Schools, and St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School. Originally from Endicott, New York, Jason now resides in Medina, Ohio and is a proud New York Yankees and Philadelphia Eagles fan and is a firefighter with the Medina Township Fire Department.
