Jason E. Smith is an Adjunct Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium and Assistant Director of the Scot Marching Band at The College of Wooster and Instructor of Low Brass at Jackson Local Schools in Massillon, Ohio. Jason received his Bachelor’s of Music Education and Tuba Performance Degree from the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam in 2006, studying tuba with Dr. Charles Guy. In 2007 Jason accepted a graduate assistantship at The University of Akron and earned a Master’s Degree in Tuba Performance in 2009 and returned to UA in 2009 as a graduate assistant in bands, completing a Master’s in Music Education degree in 2012. While at Akron, Jason studied tuba with Mr. Tucker Jolly, conducting with Mr. Robert Jorgensen and Dr. Galen Karriker.
Jason has performed with ensembles including the Wooster Symphony, W.D. Packard Band, The Sounds of Sousa Band, Freedom Brass Band of Northeast Ohio, Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps, and a brass quintet-in-residence at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Canton, Ohio. Jason was a member of numerous ensembles at both the Crane School of Music and The University of Akron that included performances at the 2003 and 2005 Northeast Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference and a 2008 European Tour with the UA Symphonic Band. Jason has taught low brass students throughout the region at Berea-Midpark City Schools, Cuyahoga Falls City Schools, Lake Local Schools, Highland Local Schools, Perry Local Schools, and St. Vincent-St. Mary's High School.
Jason holds memberships with the National Association for Music Education, Ohio Music Education Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
