Nathaniel Goldberg, associate professor of philosophy at Washington and Lee University, will present “Out-Huming David Hume” at the Phi Sigma Tau (Philosophy) Honor Society Lecture at The College of Wooster on Thursday, Feb. 14. The free public lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in Lean Lecture Room of Wishart Hall (303 E. University St.). A reception in the lobby will precede the presentation.
Goldberg received his bachelor of arts degree from Brandeis University, his master’s degree from Tufts University, and Ph.D. from Georgetown University. His research interests are in epistemology, modern philosophy, and the philosophy of language, and their implications for metaphysics. He has published on such topics as conceptual change, interpretation, meaning, relativism, and skepticism, drawing on such figures as Immanuel Kant, W. V. Quine, and Donald Davidson. Currently he is synthesizing these themes into his first book, tentatively titled Contemporary Kantianism.
Goldberg’s lecture is sponsored by the Department of Philosophy and the Cultural Events Committee. For more information, contact Patrice Reeder at 330-263-2380.
