Her primary research interests center on global non-state actors, such as International Organizations (IOs) and International Nongovernmental Organizations (INGOs), and their relationships to states and local social actors. She explores these concerns in studying the development of environment activism in China. She is currently interested in examining the emergence of legal rights consciousness in China with a special focus on issues of the environment.
