Cheeseburger in Paradise
(02) Cheeseburger in Paradise - Judith Amburgey-Peters, Department of Chemistry
Food is essential. Some eat to live and others live to eat. We live in a time of global malnutrition arising from feast and famine. What are the wide-ranging personal and societal dimensions of the food choices we make? Are our choices driven by Science? Society? Spirituality? We will explore a variety of materials including scholarly works, popular literature, and visual texts such as Food Justice, Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us, and A Place at the Table. Each student will identify a question of interest through critical readings and writing assignments to develop an argument that will be articulated in a final paper and oral presentation.
