Conflict and Post-Conflict Healing in Latin America
(17) Conflict and Post-Conflict Healing in Latin America - Michele Leiby, Department of Political Science
This seminar will examine the causes and consequences of civil war in Latin America. We will discuss why and how people organized in armed revolt against the state, how the state responded to such threats, and the human rights atrocities that resulted from these conflicts. In addition, we will discuss the challenges and strategies currently employed (including trials, truth commissions and memorials) to “heal” society in the aftermath of violence. This seminar will be influenced by multiple disciplines and will be guided by fiction and non-fiction readings, visual images, and film.
