From Blue Planet to Brown Planet? – Exploring Human Interactions with the Environment

(31) From Blue Planet to Brown Planet? – Exploring Human Interactions with the Environment - Melissa Schultz, Department of Chemistry

Is it important for humans to connect to nature? Why is there disagreement between the American public and scientists on the relationship between human activity and climate change?  What is fracking?  Do I need antibacterial chemicals in my toothpaste, grocery bags, shopping carts, and khakis?  Is bottled water safer to drink than tap water?  Paper or plastic?  This seminar will critically explore these questions and other impacts of human activity on the environment from cultural, scientific, and political perspectives.  Works such as Flight Behavior, Slow Death by Rubber Duck, Zero-Waste Home, and Waste Land will guide our discussion as we explore human interactions with our planet
