Guidelines for Media Library Film and Video Collection
General Objectives
The purpose of the Media Collection is to support the instructional needs of the College of Wooster faculty. The Media Library collection contains educational materials in non-book formats including audio cassette, CD, CD-ROM, DVD, VHS, and slides. Titles in the collection are purchased upon the request of an instructor for specific curriculum support.
Languages
The collection consists primarily of English language material and other languages with English subtitles. Languages other than English without subtitles may be purchased if no other format is available.
Chronology
Priority is given to documentary programs produced within the past ten years. There are no chronological restrictions on feature films.
Geography
The collection contains material produced throughout the world: however, the majority of titles are obtained through U.S. distributors due to equipment compatibility concerns. Programs are purchased in the NTSC standard when available; programs in other standards will be purchased on a highly selective basis and on the availability of equipment support.
Selection Criteria
The Media Library collection is developed through faculty requests for classroom curriculum support. The materials are purchased through a special, but limited, library fund. Please contact the Media Library Manager for specific ordering procedures for DVD and VHS formats.
Other Materials
Audio cassettes, compact discs, cd-rom products, and slides are purchased through the faculty library liaison and the libraries' Acquisitions Manager.
