Government Information Collection

The Government Information Department of the College of Wooster Libraries has provided free public access to U.S. government information since its designation as a federal depository in 1966. We currently receive approximately 37% of all publications available through the Federal Depository Library Program and base our selection profile on the needs of the college community and local patrons. We also work with other members of the Five Colleges of Ohio Government Documents Group in matters of collection development and cooperative cataloging projects and responsibilities, thus broadening our community of patrons.

The majority of the government publications received by the library are classified according to the Superintendent of Documents classification system and shelved on Andrews L2. A small number of periodical titles, including the Monthly Labor Review, and some older documents are cataloged and shelved in the library's main collection. All of these materials are cataloged and displayed in CONSORT, the library catalog shared by members of the Five Colleges of Ohio consortium.

The Government Information Department maintains a collection varied in subject matter but specializes in documents from the following agencies:

  • Bureau of the Census
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics
  • Congress
  • Department of Defense
  • Department of Education
  • Department of Health and Human Services
  • Geological Survey

The collection reflects the college's strengths in economics, history, political science, and geology. Patrons from the general public also make use of our statistical, legislative, and regulatory materials.

If you need assistance in using the Government Information collection, please contact one of our staff members or use one of our online guides to government information such as Locating Government Resources.
