Daniel George (left) is an English major; Philosophy minor. His I.S. is entitled, "Can Narrative Heal? Honoring the Consciousness, Creativity, and Self-authorship of Sick Patients and Re-Humanizing Health Care Through the Art of Narrative." [Professors Debra Shostak and Thomas Tierney served as advisers]. The I.S. explores how written narrative is used in medical settings as a pedagogical and therapy tool with Alzheimer's patients at Sunrise Retirement Home in Wooster. Danny spent a semester studying abroad at St. Andrews University, Scotland. In the Fall, Danny will attend Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and intern with the Cuyahoga County Board of Mental Health. Christina Shadle is a Sociology major; Spanish minor. Christy's I.S. entitled "'By My Self': Reconceiving of Welfare Dependency," offers a feminist definition of welfare dependency drawn from the mothering work performed by women in this population. [PBK Kappa of Ohio member, Dr. Heather Fitz Gibbon, served as Christy’s I.S. adviser]. While on campus, Christy was also a co-facilitator for Pueblo de Esperanza, a student-led group focused on peace and social justice in Latin America. She also had the opportunity to study abroad in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. Upon graduation Christy will attend the Direct Action and Research Training (DART) Institute for Congregational/ Community Organizing.
