HHMI Summer Research Opportunities

Thanks to a 2008 Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Undergraduate Science Education Program award, The College of Wooster is able to offer two summer research programs for currently enrolled Wooster students. There are three different types of summer research.

The HHMI Summer Research Scholars will be hired full time for 8 weeks. The students will be required to attend weekly meetings.

HHMI Summer Research Scholar Interdisciplinary Team

The HHMI-supported summer research program seeks to build on its previous successes by encouraging research projects with an interdisciplinary focus. Interdisciplinary projects will involve two or more faculty researchers working with a small group of students. These positions will be open to currently enrolled first, second or third year students who will be enrolled next academic year (2013-14) at The College of Wooster as sophomores, juniors or seniors.

HHMI Summer Research Scholar

The previously funded HHMI SRS program, including student research opportunities at the Cleveland Clinic Wooster and OARDC, continues. These positions will be open to currently enrolled first, second or third year students who will be enrolled next academic year (2013-14) at The College of Wooster as sophomores, juniors or seniors.

Application and Review Process

Openings for summer will be posted in early February, and the application deadline will be 8 a.m. February 15th. The applications will be forwarded to the appropriate faculty members for their decision. Some faculty members may ask for students to come in for an interview. Students should hear back about their application by Spring Break. Students will need to accept or decline the position by April 1, 2013. For more information, contact Professor Dean Fraga, HHMI Program Director.
