College Scholar AwardsCollege Scholar Award 2008-2009 Eligibility: Winners are determined on the basis of overall academic achievement (GPA, ACT/SAT score, competition essay). Instructions: Students wishing to apply for the College Scholar Award, must submit their application for admission, and a copy of a graded piece of analytical writing that was completed for a high school assignment, by January 1. A cover page with the student´s name, the scholarship name, and a brief explanation of the assignment, needs to accompany a photocopy of the original copy, with teacher´s comments and grade. Recommended pieces of writing include an analytical essay, a book review or a research paper. (Short stories, poetry or lab reports are not acceptable.) No limits are placed on the length, but submissions should be at least two type-written pages. College Scholar Competition Because The College of Wooster curriculum emphasizes the importance of writing, your work will be evaluated in terms of how well you demonstrate thoughtful arguments, intellectual imagination, audience awareness, and engaging prose, as well as clarity, concision, and accuracy of language. Your essay will be read by members of the College faculty. Please note that your College Scholar work and completed application for admission must be post-marked no later than January 1. If you enclose your essay response with your completed application for admission, please make sure that the envelope clearly indicates “College Scholar Information Enclosed.” |
