About Us

The College of Wooster Slide Library serves the classroom teaching and research needs of the Art Department and the larger college community, benefiting any department or instructor with visual resource needs.

The bulk of the library consists of over 200,000 35 mm slides, and a wide variety of other services and facilities are available. We are currently focused on the digital imaging aspect of our database.

The collection is overseen by a part-time Visual Resources Curator who is responsible, in part, for:

  • the development and maintenance of the digital image infrastructure: Madison Digital Image Database (MDID) http://mdid2.wooster.edu;
  • the care of the existing slide collection;
  • the digitization of the slide collection;
  • overseeing the circulation of slides within the collection (by Department of Art, other Wooster faculty, students, and outside borrowers);
  • organizing sections within the collection and making them more user-friendly;
  • the supervision of student workers.

In addition to the Visual Resources Curator, the Slide Library depends on student staffing in order to operate smoothly. This includes at least one assistant specializing in digital imaging as well as the photographing, masking, and mounting of slides. In addition, a Sophomore Research Assistant is often employed to assist the Curator in a variety of projects.
