Non-Art Faculty Slide Check-Out and Return Policy

  • Slide checkout and return by faculty outside the Department of Art should be supervised by the Visual Resources Curator.
  • Up to 30 slides may be borrowed at a time. Special permission may be granted if you need more than 30 slides at once.
  • Choose your slides from the collection and place them in a black box for their safety. Slides may be checked out for up to 10 working days, but you may choose desired slides one week in advance. They will be reserved on the desk for you until you check them out.
  • When you are ready to check out your slides, take a plastic slide sheet from the desk and place your slides in it, labels up. Make a copy of this sheet and write your name, faculty status, e-mail, and phone extension on the copy, along with the date. Place the copy in the checkout folder. Put the slides in a black slide box to take them with you, and return the empty slide sheet.
  • Slides must be returned within 10 working days of checkout. Please return slides as soon as possible in order to accommodate other borrowers.
  • The Visual Resources Curator must check in the slides in person to ensure that none are missing and that they are in good condition.
  • Every borrower is responsible for each slide borrowed under his/her name. A $5.00 fee will be charged for each missing or damaged slide.

Borrowing Policies

  • Please do not touch or smudge the glass portion of slides.
  • When opening drawers, please take care not to pull them all the way out. Otherwise, the tabs that hold the drawers in the cabinet may become bent.
  • Please do not remove the artist, country, or any other identifying cards from the drawers. Cards are frequently lost when removed from the drawers, making it quite challenging to re-file slides.
  • If you find quite a bit of extra space in the drawers while you're pulling slides, please fill it in by adding wooden blocks or re-positioning the white spacers in the cabinets. This helps to keep the drawers in order.
  • Do not re-file slides. Please place them in the Return Box located on the desk by the Curator's office.
