The College of Wooster men?s and women?s cross country teams will be off from competition this week and will next run at the Carl Broughton Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16. That meet will be hosted by Marietta College and starts at 11 a.m. Please note that the Scots will not be at this weekend?s Great Lakes Colleges Association Championships as previously announced.

Last Week: The Wooster cross country teams eased into their competitive season, running at the non-scoring Denison Fall Classic Friday (Sept. 1). Along with the Fighting Scots, individuals from host Denison University and Kenyon College competed in four races ?N men?s and women?s 3200 meters and men?s and women?s 5K?s.
Highlighting Wooster results was junior Nicole Calderone (Grass Lake, Mich. / Greenhills School), who crossed second in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:48. Two other Scots placed among the top-five, as senior Ashley Zervos (Wheeling, W. Va. / The Linsly School) took fourth (13:10) and sophomore Emily Elderbrock (Ashland, Ohio / Ashland) came in fifth (13:21). Wooster did not have any entrants in the women?s 5000.
In men?s action, seniors Rudy Gilman (Silverton, Ore. / Silverton Union) and Dave Thomas (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) each finished among the top-10 in the 5K, with Gilman earning fifth-place (16:54) and Thomas 10th (17:28). Also of note, freshman Zane Shelter (North Canton, Ohio / Hoover) was 13th in the 5000 (17:31), and no Scots competed in the 3200 meters.
