Women Fifth, Men Sixth at Case Meet

The College of Wooster cross country teams fought off intense heat as well as their fellow runners at their first multi-team event of 2002 - the Bill Sudeck Invitational hosted by Case Western University - en route to a fifth-place finish for the women and a sixth-place effort for the men. There were 14 squads.
The Wooster women scored 136 points, while Baldwin-Wallace College (64) edged Mt. Union College (70) for the team championship. Individually, the sophomore duo of Jennie Stockdale and Tiffany White led the Scots with respective 12th- (20:02) and 14th-place (20:08) finishes. Not far behind was senior teammate Devon Herl in 25th (20:48), while other individual scorers were junior Karina Colbenson and sophomore Erin Herl. Colbenson was 39th overall (21:22) and Erin Herl was 47th (21:30).
Additional noteworthy performances for the Wooster women came from senior Megan Eberts, who finished 58th (21:54), and sophomore Lindsey Dieringer, who posted a 60th-place effort (22:05).
In men's action for the Scots, senior Evan McDaniel finished a very respectable seventh (27:22) in a sea of 140 competitors. First-year Taylor Delhagen turned in Wooster's second-fastest time for the second week in a row and was 19th overall (28:11). Performing as the No. 3 man for the Scots was senior Jared Rhode, who ran 28:37 to place 30th. Sophomore Chris Bender and junior Patrick Wynne rounded out the scoring squad at 44th (28:16) and 48th (28:18), respectively.
The Scots' next appearance will be at the GLCA (Great Lakes Collegiate Association) Championships hosted by Kenyon College this Saturday, Sept. 14.
