Both The College of Wooster men's and women's cross country teams finished fifth out of ten and nine teams, respectively, at the Great Lakes Colleges Association Championships held at Kenyon College this Saturday (Sept. 14). Sophomore Jennie Stockdale led the Wooster women, placing fifth overall, while senior Jared Rhode paced the men's squad coming in at sixteenth.

Stockdale (20:19) improved her performance by one place from last year's GLCA meet and was closely followed by teammate, sophomore Tiffany White (20:47), who ran down six more places from the previous year and ended 16th. Sophomores Erin Herl and Lindsey Dieringer worked together to finish 27th and 28th, respectively, and finished with finals times of 21:22 and 21:23. The fifth-point earner for the Scots was junior Karina Colbenson with a time of 21:29, placing her 30th.

Senior Devon Herl crossed the line in 21:43 and placed 36th, and was followed by classmate Megan Eberts, running a 22:08 for 50th-place. This gave the women a final score of 105 points, while Denison University won the meet (51) by edging both DePauw University (65) and Oberlin College (65).

Rhode finished the men's five-mile course with a time of 28:45, which moved him up ten places from the 2001 GLCA's. Freshman Taylor Delhagen followed teammate Rhode with 29:25, putting him 25th. The next three finishers for Wooster were junior Patrick Wynne, sophomore Chris Bender, and junior Eliot Fackler, placing 40th (30:36), 46th (30:47), and 47th (30:57), respectively, and giving the Scots 151 total points. DePauw took the men's competition (38).

Next for Wooster, it will host its own annual invitational on Sept. 28.
