Wooster Cross Country Comes in Fifth at NCACs

Both College of Wooster cross country teams placed fifth in their respective races at Saturday's (Nov. 2) 2002 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Wittenberg University.
The Wooster men totaled 129 points, just edged out for fourth by Wabash College (126), while Allegheny College won the meet (47) over Kenyon College (49). Placing third in the men's 10-team field was Denison University (112).
In women's action, the Scots registered 152 points in their nine-team field behind champion Allegheny (42) and Oberlin College (61), Kenyon (74), and Denison (88).
Individually in the men's 8K event, all five of the Scots scorers finished in the top-33 led by seniors Evan McDaniel and Jared Rhode in 17th- (26:33) and 20th-place (26:48), respectively. Not far behind was Wooster's trio of freshman Taylor Delhagen, freshman Colin Turner, and senior Carson Bennett, as they had respective finishes of 28th (27:28), 31st (27:48), and 33rd (27:59).
Just out of the Scots˙ scoring was Chris Taft, another freshman, who placed 35th overall (28:02), while their seventh-man was junior Patrick Wynne in 54th (28:53).
For the Wooster women, the sophomore duo of Jennie Stockdale and Tiffany White paced the way to their fifth-place effort on the 5K course. Stockdale was 17th overall (19:35), followed by White in 28th (19:54). The Scots˙ other point scorers were senior Devon Herl, sophomore Lindsey Dieringer, and junior Karina Colbenson in 35th (20:10), 39th (20:22), and 40th (20:23), respectively.
Rounding out Wooster's women's top-seven were Erin Herl and Vanessa Georgeson, sophomores who produced respective efforts good for 42nd- (20:27) and 52nd-place (20:47).
Next, the Scots will compete at the annual NCAA Regional Championships in two weeks, this year host by Ohio Northern University.
