Callahan Leads Men to Third-Place Finish; Women Come in Ninth at All-Ohios
The College of Wooster mens harriers finished in third-place out of 20 NCAA Div. III teams for the second time in four years at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships, held at the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio, this past weekend (Oct. 10). Overall, the Wooster men placed higher than the six other North Coast Athletic Conference schools competing and were 16th out of 37 total squads, while the Scot women were ninth of 19 Div. III teams, and 23rd of 39 overall. Brendan Callahan paced Wooster, as the senior came in fifth among 127 Div. III runners and 40th across all divisions (243 individual competitors), covering the course in 27:10.2. Junior teammate Matthew Linman produced his best career result by coming in 16th in the Div. III grouping (28:02.4), while the Scots other scorers sophomore Charlie Van Gombos, junior Chris Bender, and sophomore Colin Turner all placed in the top-50. Van Gombos was 28th among Div. III runners (28:26.6), while Bender and Turner crossed the finish line in 44th (28:58.9) and 50th (29:04.9), respectively. Wooster freshman womens runner, Katie Wieferich, was once again impressive, taking sixth-place out of 130 Div. III runners, and 35th of 269 overall (all divisions), with a time of 19:29.2. The rest of the Scots scorers senior Colleen Call, junior Lindsey Dieringer, senior Karina Colbenson, and freshman Sarah Lloyd were came in between the 47th and 65th-place slots. Call was 47th (20:58.3), followed by Dieringer in 55th (21:05.6), Colbenson in 57th (21:10.7), and Lloyd in 65th (21:37.6). Wooster continues its 2003 campaign next Saturday (Oct. 18) at the Ohio Northern Invitational. |
