Colleen Call

Colleen Call was the Scots' second-best runner at Ohio Northern, finishing 26th.

The College of Wooster cross country teams took advantage of one of the first flat courses that they’ve run on this season Saturday (Oct. 18), most notably the women, which came in fourth of 10 teams at the Ohio Northern Invitational. Wooster’s abbreviated men’s team took 11th of 13.

The Scot women, also running in a 6K event for the first time this year, totaled 131 points, while conference foe Denison University took the competition with a mere 30 points. In the men’s 8K race, Albion College was triumphant with 38 points, while Wooster, which rested the majority of its top-seven, had a combined score of 281.

Newcomer Katie Wieferich led the Scot women once again, coming in 10th overall (23:59), a little more than a minute off of the pace of winner Elaine Binkley of Denison (22:43). Senior tri-captain Colleen Call followed Wieferich in 26th-place (22:49), while junior Jennie Stockdale ran a 24:54 to take 31st overall during her first appearance of the season. Wooster’s other two placers were senior tri-captain Karina Colbenson in 38th and junior Lindsey Dieringer in 40th, racing 25:08 and 25:10, respectively.

A couple of the Scots’ regulars did compete on the men’s side, as sophomore Taylor Delhagen finished 21st with a final time of 26:40 and classmate Chris Taft placed 50th (27:33). Cedarville University’s Dan Campbell captured the event in 25:22. Wooster’s other scorers included first-years Zach Patterson and Rudy Gilman, both of which crossed the line at 28:37, coming in 86th and 87th, respectively, while the final placing member was senior tri-captain Eliot Fackler in 103rd-place (29:15).

The Scots will host the Wooster Relays on Wednesday (Oct. 22) — their final preparation before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, which they will also host.
