Harriers Compete at GLCA Championships
The College of Wooster cross country runners combined to place three in the top-five at their first regulation meet of the 2004 season this past Saturday (Sept. 11), while the mens team placed sixth and the women fifth at the Great Lakes Colleges Association Championships, hosted by Oberlin College. Junior Taylor Delhagen and senior Matt Linman made strong season debuts, crossing third (26:58) and fifth overall (27:10), however, no other Wooster men placed among the top-30 individually. Rounding out the Scots scorers were junior Colin Turner in 34th (29:05), sophomore Nathan Malcomb in 55th (30:26), and Zac Patterson in 61st (30:38). Leading the way for the Wooster women, whose fifth-place effort marked a two-spot improvement over last years finish, was Katie Wieferich, as the sophomore came in fourth overall, covering Oberlins 5K course in 19:24. She was just 28 seconds behind the winners pace. The rest of the scorers all came between the 21st- and 31st-place individual finishers, led by junior Tiffany White (20:44). Freshman Nicole Calderone placed 26th (20:57) in her collegiate debut, just ahead of senior teammates Jennie Stockdale and Erin Herl, who were 29th (21:06) and 31st (21:07), respectively. Next on the schedule for the harriers is the annual Wooster Invitational in two weeks (Sept. 25) at L.C. Boles Memorial Golf Course. |
