![]() | Seth Duerr's interception return for a touchdown in the middle of the fourth quarter lifted Wooster to a 21-14 win over Case Reserve. |
But that is exactly what happened, as the Scots showed tremendous resiliancy in scoring a late touchdown that lifted them to a 21-14 victory.
Holding a 14-6 lead in the third quarter, Wooster appeared to have the Spartans on the ropes, as it drove down to the one-yard line. But Will Schober, who had a career game, fumbled, giving the ball back to Case. The Spartans proceeded to drive 80 yards to tie the game.
On the Scots' next possession, they drove the length of the field, but again were unable to score from the Case one-yard line, turning the ball over on downs.
Unfazed by the missed opportunities, Wooster again moved the ball on its next possession, but Ben Arnold missed a 23-yard field goal with 9:29 left in the fourth quarter.
With everything seeming to be going the Spartans' way, it all turned on one play. On a second-down pass, Scot linebacker Seth Duerr stepped in front of a pass from Case quarterback Nick Leskiewicz and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown. That play proved to be the winning score.
The story of the game offensively was Schober, who rushed the ball 34 times for 190 yards. It was the most yards by a Wooster runner in five years. Quarterback Rich Judd threw two touchdown passes, making him the Scots' all-time leader in scoring passes with 25.
