The win snapped a two-game losing streak that had been the Scots lose narrow decisions to North Coast Athletic Conference rivals Allegheny and Wittenberg. Wooster's record moved to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC heading into the final game of the season against Ohio Wesleyan.
Case struck first when the Spartans drove 46 yards in five plays and scored on an 11-yard pass from Ryan Crumbaugh to Dave Wooley
Wooster drove 79 yards with the ensuing kickof to take the lead behind sophomore quarterback Justin Abraham, who was starting his first game of the season. Abraham's 11-yard pass to Reggie Ray got the Scots on the scoreboard, and Ben Arnold's extra point put Wooster on top 7-6.
Case controlled the football during a penalty-filled second quarter, and the Spartans regained the lead when Joey Pearce booted a 35-year field goal with 43 seconds left in the half.
The game's turning point came on the next series when senior Rich Judd took over at quarterback and took only 35 seconds to drive the Scots 66 yards. The score came when Judd tossed an 18-yard pass to Brandon Good who made a specatacular diving catch in the corner of the end zone. A successful two-point conversion put the Scots on top 15-9 at the half.
In the second half, Wooster struck quickly with a 58-yard drive capped by a 33-yard scoring pass from Judd to Ray. After Case responded with another Ryan Crumbaugh touchdown pass to close the gap to 22-16 with 8:19 left in the third quarter, the Scots took control for the rest of the game with a blitzing defense that recorded five sacks. Judd threw his third touchdown pass of the day, a 21-yarder to Kelly McFarland, in the third quarter. Then Brock Wanless and Sean Conway each added short touchdown runs to complete the scoring.
Statistically, Wanless had 107 yards rushing on 21 carries while Judd completed 13 of 20 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Ray had six catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Good extended his NCAA-record string to 39 consecutive games with a reception.
