Hubbell Closes Out Career as All-American; Six Scots Named All-Region
Hubbell earned her first career All-American and regional selections after leading the defense for the Scots. She was instrumental in Wooster's league-leading defense this fall, starting all 19 matches and helping the Scots record six shutouts and allow just 1.19 goals per game. She also made a team-high seven defensive saves. Hubbell was a big threat offensively as well, scoring three goals and tying for the team lead in assists with seven. The senior closes out her career as one of the best in Wooster's history, helping the Scots to 58 wins in 79 games as well as two conference championships. She accumulated nine goals, 12 assists, and 19 defensive saves over four years, and was an integral piece of a defense that held opponents to just 1.11 goals per match during that time period. The two honors mark the third and fourth distinctions of her career as she was named honorable mention All-North Coast Athletic Conference her freshman year and was first-team all-league this season. Tingley who moved up from being named second-team all-region a year ago, was one of the offensive leaders for the Scots, finishing second on the team with 22 points on eight goals and six assists. The junior forward accounted for nine points during one three-game span, including both scores against league-champion Wittenberg University in a 3-2 loss. It marks the fifth postseason honor of Tingley's career as she was named second-team All-NCAC each of her three years in addition to the regional selection last year. Also closing out their field hockey careers with postseason honors are identical twins Ashley and Angela Arnold (Columbus, Ohio / Thomas Worthington), who each garnered second-team all-region honors. The selections mark the second all-region honors of their careers, as Ashley earned first-team status in 2002 as a sophomore, while Angela picked up second-team accolades a year ago. The more defensive-minded Ashley helped the Scot defense limit looks at the goal as opponents only managed 10.7 shots at the box, converting on just 24 of those opportunities, while Angela was a major contributor on offense finishing third on the team with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. The duo has combined for nine postseason distinctions in their four years, including five all-conference selections. Rounding out the Scots' all-region selections were sophomores Anlyn Addis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Ann Arbor Pioneer) and Anne Leigh (Englewood, Colo. / Cherry Creek), both of whom were also selected to the second-team. Addis picked up her first regional honor and the second postseason honor of her career after finishing as the squad's top-scorer with 23 points on a team-leading eight goals and seven assists. Over her last five games, she tallied 12 points, including a five-point day against rival Wittenberg and a two-goal match against Ohio Wesleyan University. Leigh made an impressive showing in her second year as the Scots' starting goalkeeper, stopping 113 shots in 1176:43 for a league-best .850 save percentage as well as recording four shutouts. In two years in goal, Leigh has given up just 37 goals in 2425 minutes (1.07 GAA), while making 216 saves (.854). She was also named to the All-NCAC First Team earlier this fall, giving her two postseason honors for her career. As a team, Wooster went 13-6 overall for its fifth-straight year with 13 victories or more. In the NCAC, the Scots went 8-4 to tie for second-place with Kenyon College and Oberlin College, earning the number four seed in the NCAC Tournament, where they were ousted by eventual conference champion Wittenberg 3-2. |
