Scot Field Hockey Favored to Win NCAC in 2004
While the coaches seven first-place votes were spread out, The College of Wooster field hockey team emerged as a significant favorite in the North Coast Athletic Conference, following the tabulation of the leagues preseason balloting, which was released by the NCAC office on Tuesday. Wooster, coming off a season in which it went 15-6 overall and finished in a three-way tie for first in the conference standings (9-3), received 45 points, seven more than the predicted second-place team, Wittenberg University (38). Also, the Scots and Wittenberg split six of the first-place tallies. The remaining first-place nod went to Oberlin College (32), which tied for third in the preseason poll with Denison University (32). Kenyon College (19), Earlham College (16), and Ohio Wesleyan University (14) are expected to battle for the fifth-to-seventh place slots. Wooster, which returns six players with starting experience and last won an outright NCAC title in 2001, opens 2004 with a night match on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Washington & Jefferson College.
