The College of Wooster field hockey team, which went 11-9 overall and tied for second-place in the North Coast Athletic Conference this past fall season, and 13 of its players were recently awarded for their work in the classroom by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

The NFHCA named Wooster an “Academic Team” – one of 78 in NCAA Div. III – after the Scots compiled a 3.22 grade-point average as a team during the fall semester. There are approximately 150 Div. III schools that sponsor field hockey.

Individually, 13 of Wooster’s 23 players were put on the NFHCA Div. III National Academic Squad – junior forward Anlyn Addis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer), junior midfielder Katy Baron (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park & River Forest), senior forward Katelin Bugler (Peabody, Mass. / Peabody), freshman forward Alex Cotter (Summit, N.J. / Summit), junior forward Gina Crough (Pittsbrugh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon), senior back Sarah Hamerstone (Shaker Hts., Ohio / Laurel School), senior midfielder Lindsey Headman (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Laurel School), junior goalkeeper Katherine Lamoreau (Bowdoinham, Maine / Mount Ararat School), freshman forward/midfielder Jessica Lee (Ellicott City, Md. / Glenelg Country), junior back Miranda Leickly (Gahanna, Ohio / Columbus Academy), junior goalkeeper Anne Leigh (Englewood, Colo. / Cherry Creek), senior back Sloan McBride (Moreland Hills, Ohio / Orange), and senior forward Lindsay Tingley (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson).

The Scots have strung together seven winning seasons in a row, highlighted by NCAC championships in 2001 and 2003 (three-way tie). During 2005, Wooster tied for second with Wittenberg University in conference action and then defeated the rival Tigers in the NCAC Tournament semifinals 2-1 before bowing out to Oberlin College in the finals 3-0.
