Scots Pick Up NFHCA Academic Awards
The College of Wooster field hockey team was cited for its excellence in the classroom recently, as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association designated it with an NFHCA “National Academic Team Award,” one of 83 in NCAA Div. III so recognized. The Fighting Scots qualified for it by accumulating an overall grade-point average of 3.0 or above. Additionally, four of Wooster’s players – junior back Anna Hurley (Oxford, Ohio / Talawanda), sophomore goalkeeper Izzy Maffetone (Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville), senior back Kate Persing (Canton, Conn. / Kimball Union Academy – N.H.), and sophomore back/midfielder Kate Quinlivan (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville East) – were honored with spots on the organization “National Academic Squad.” On the field, a youthful Scot team overcame a 1-4 start in 2007 and ended up in a three-way tie for first-place in the North Coast Athletic Conference (8-4) and with a double-digit win total (11-7) for the 10th consecutive year. |
