Wooster Field Hockey Opens Year With Tough Loss

The College of Wooster field hockey team was unable to start the 1999 campaign in the same fashion that it ended the 1998 season in. Last year's season finale for the Scots resulted in a 1-0 win over Bellarmine at the Midwest Tournament, but the roles reversed Friday afternoon in Louisville, Ky.

Despite being outshot 20-13 by Wooster, the Knights came away with the 1-0 victory this year. The lone score came early in the second half as Bellarmine's Jessica Taylor fired a shot past Wooster goaltender Melissa Goodwin (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport).

Wooster will next take on Hanover on Sept. 4 in a neutral-site game at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.
