Field Hockey Loses In Battle of Conference Powers

Emily White gave Wooster a 2-1 lead in the second half.
The College of Wooster field hockey team had its three-match winning streak come to a halt on Sept. 21, losing to Denison by a score of 3-2 in a battle of North Coast Athletic Conference powers.

The Big Red, who are now 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the NCAC, scored on one of their 14 first-half shots at the 12:51 mark and went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

Wooster was not about to go away, however, as the Scots came out in the second half and played much better. In fact, the Scots scored less than seven minutes into the second stanza, tying the match on a goal from senior forward Jeannie Kosinski (Newark, Ohio / Maumee Valley Country Day) off a pass from classmate Maura Finn (Glenshaw, Pa. / Fox Chapel). Seventeen minutes later, Wooster took the lead with a goal by sophomore forward Emily White (Princeton, W. Va. / Western Reserve Academy) off another assist from Finn.

Denison was able to regroup though and the Big Red tied the match with 7:34 remaining in regulation. The match appeared to be headed to overtime, but DenisonÛs Keri Arnold snuck a shot past the Scots Melissa Goodwin (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) with 2:51 remaining in regulation to seal the victory.

Goodwin had another strong game in goal for Wooster as she registered 12 saves.

The Scots, who are now 5-4 and 4-1 in the conference, return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m., with their homecoming game against Ohio Wesleyan.
