Wooster Field Hockey Loses to Regional Power DePauw
The College of Wooster field hockey team battled DePauw yesterday afternoon at Cindy Barr Memorial Field and came out on the short end of a 3-1 match.
Despite missing two starters due to injury, the Fighting Scots held their own against one of the top teams in the Midwest region for most of the match. The first 20 minutes of the contest went by without a goal, but then DePauw—s Lisa Goecke put the Tigers up 1-0 with a score. Less than four minutes later, Elisse Cady gave DePauw a 2-0 advantage on a score off a pass from Emily Lill.
Early in the second half, Wooster made the match very interesting with a goal of its own by freshman Grace Gibson (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Ann Arbor Huron), cutting the Tigers lead in half. Gibson was assisted by junior forward Amanda Bernardon (Chadds Ford, Pa. / The Tatnall School). The score remained 2-1 for nearly the remainder of the match. DePauw—s Cindy Davis finally put the match away on a score with 2:30 remaining.
Despite taking 26 shots, the Tigers only got three past Wooster junior goalkeeper Melissa Goodwin (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport). Goodwin was able to keep the Scots in the match, as she registered 19 saves on the afternoon.
